From 2005-2015 Smith College had a poorly designed campus map which all visitors as well as prospective & new students used to navigate the campus:

Main problems with this map include a complete disregard to scale, a prominent lack of existing paths, and poor labeling, as well as an oddly oriented key. Frustrated, I started research in cartography, the history of maps, the history of campus maps at Smith College (via the Smith College Archives), and campus maps of colleges and universities from across the country.

This project received The Susan Cohen ’62 and Paula Deitz ’59 Prize (2014) – an annual award given in the Landscape Studies department at Smith College for excellence in a thesis, paper or project that examines the science, design or culture of the built environment.
